Does anyone know anything about acupuncture? ?

Question: Does anyone know anything about acupuncture? ?

(Posted by: dearhonestyx on 2008-11-10 16:28:46)

I see a natural path doctor for a few issues i have.. some anxiety and depression. my doctor has given me the option of having acupuncture done. he told me about it a little bit, showed me some of the needles he will use. he told me that it will probably help me to feel better in some areas, but im very nervous. i am quite afraid of needles, no matter the size. i also have a HUGE imagination, and i don't like the though of needles going into my skin. it just makes me nervous. so i was wondering if anyone knew anything else about acupuncture that they could share with me? anything AT ALL would be helpful. thanks.

There are many different sizes of needles that are used and its just tiny little pricks most of the time you cant even feel it and i heard it helps a lot because so many diffent parts of your body are connected with other different parts and so just applying pressure or relieving pressure from those parts can help you feel way better so i also am very scared of needles... i have to squeeze someones hand and close my eyes... i dont like it but it will be over soon just think of something funny or somthing that will distract you and you'll be ok

My husband had some treatmants done for some allergies. It really helped him. It totally cleared up the symptoms that he was having. He said it didn't really hurt, just felt like a little poke. Good luck!

There are other options to acupuncture if you are timid or afraid of the needles. Some acupuncturists will offer a magnet therapy where magnets sit on the acupuncture points instead of needles. You also have options in pressure point therapies such as Shiatsu, TuiNa, Reflexology and Thai massage.

You will probably be pleasantly surprised regarding the discomfort you are imagining. The thought of needles makes a lot of people squeamish; however, most people do not find acupuncture uncomfortable once they try it.

Acupuncture is not nearly as uncomfortable as you are imagining. Many patients only experience a minor pinch during the insertion, and most fall asleep during the treatment. Ask your practitioner to use thinner needles and be especially gentle during the treatment. If you are still uncomfortable, consider seeing an Acupuncturist that provides a softer style of treatment. Japanese acupuncturists generally use extremely thin needles and master complex needling techniques to offer very gentle treatments. Or consider seeing an acupuncturist that focuses on pediatric care. There are many styles of acupuncture, and you can read about the different ones in this article from altMD.com: altmd.com/ Articles/ Acupuncture-Styles
